Enjoyable Moments in Starbucks.

STARBUCKS. They said ' Starbucks has always been a place where you can find the world's best coffees' Is it true?? In order to confirm it, you have to go to Starbucks and experience it yourself! Recently, I had my own experience in Starbucks coincidentally.

Well, actually it was all organised by Mr. Jimmy, my IAE teacher in HICT. Mr. Jimmy wanted to train us to listen to live lecture. So, we have to attend for a coffee talk in Starbucks, Klang Parade. About 10.45 o'clock on the 21st February morning, me together with all my classmates gathered in Starbucks. After a simple brief from Mr. Jimmy, my 1st journey in coffee phenomena started.

While waiting for the coffee talk to start, the 'barista' served us with Frappuccino. It was blended coffee with cream. For me, the taste was great. Good starting for the coffee talk. It made me intrested to know more information about coffee..

The coffee talk started when Ms Diana, the store manager introduced us the coffee master 'Mr Yang'. Firstly, Mr Yang explained the purposes of this coffee talk ; to introduce us to Starbucks coffee, how they make the coffee and also mutual learning. Further, Mr Yang told us the history of coffee. From his story, a goat-herder found out his goat became more active after consuming red cherries. Curiosity made the goat-herder to try the red cherries. (Red cherries actually is the coffee bean before they roast it) Delighted by its invigorating effects, a group of monks began to consume the bean themselves. The result was unexpected. The monks experienced 'sudden' energy ehich made them stay awake the whole night to meditate. In addition, Mr Yang also told us that the first place of coffee was in Ethopia. That's how coffee began to be everyone favourite drink.

So, we move on to the history of Starbucks. Briefly, Starbucks was first opened in 1971, Seattle. In 1982, Howard schultz joined Starbucks. Mr Yang repeatedly told us that Howard Schultz transformed coffee to a brand. So, in 1998, Starbucks was first introduced in Malaysia. In 2000s, Starbucks has spread their business around the world. Now, everybody can enjoy world's best coffee in Starbucks.

Personally, I never know anything regarding coffee before this. The only thing I know, 'coffee is black in colour'. However, recently i can tell you there are 2 important species of coffee; Arabica coffee and Robusta coffee. Even so, Starbucks only uses Arabica coffee because of it high quality and unique aroma.

Geography is a flavour. From the coffee talk, i just noticed that coffee taste different according to where it was grown. Mainly there are 3 growing regions; Latin America, Africa/Arabia and Asia/Pasific. According to Mr Yang, the best place to grow coffee is in Asia/Pasific. A coffee expert usually know how to diffrentiate where the coffee was grown only by tasting it. Starbucks also specified coffee into 4 types; mild, medium, bold and extra bold. For a first timer, he or she should take mild coffee.

Starbucks has 4 fundametals that make them unique. First, the proportion. To prepare a cup of great taste coffee, they use the right proportion of coffee to water. The best proportion will be 10 grams of coffee mixed with 180 mililiters of water. Second, grind. Different brewing methods have different grinding requirements. Grind differ the fine texture of the coffee taste. Third, water. Do you know that minerl water will destroy the coffee?? It's true! The right way to make coffee is by using normal water without chlorine. the best temperature of the water is between 90 degree celcius to 96 degree celcius. The last fundametal is to maintain the freshness. In Starbucks, they only grind the coffee bean when consumer ask for it. This is because coffee bean has 4 enemies; sunlight, oxygen, moisture, and heat. Thus, 1 bag of coffee only last for 7 days.

Alright, now i'm gonna teach all of you the real way to taste coffee. There are 4 simple steps to be taken. Firstly, you have to smell. Simple, close 3/4 of the cup with your fingers and take a deep smell of the coffee. Secondly, slurp it. Yes, slurp it just like you slurp maggi mee. Thirdly, locate the experience in your tounge. Lastly, create a coffee description. How do I know the steps? Well, I'm a coffee expert now.. No, just joking. Mr Yang tought me those steps before the coffee tasting took part.

In conclusion, the coffee talk really change my thought about coffee. It gave me more information which i don't even bother before this. I had a wonderful and enjoyable moments in Starbucks. The best thing of all for me, when we were given door gift(it contains a cup with Starbucks logo and a packet of Starbucks coffee). It cost about RM50 if we buy it. Cool right! so, what are you waiting for?? Experience yourself in Starbucks now!!
